AVILOV MIKHAIL
IVANOVICH.
1882-1954
Painter. Attended the Drawing School run by the
Society for the Promotion of Art (1893). Studied at the Academy of Arts
(1904-1913), attending classes of F.A. Rubo and N.S. Samokish. Member of the
Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia from 1923. Showed his works at
exhibitions of the Academy of Arts, the A.I. KulndJI Society, the Association of
Artists of Revolutionary Russia, Four Arts.
People s Artist of the RSFSR, full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR.
Avilov's art is mainly devoted to the heroic past of the Russian people. He
painted: "Oprichniks" (1916), "Workers Bringing Guns to Pugachev"
(1924), "Crossing the Sivash Bay" (1927), "The Death of 0.
Dundich"(1940) and other pictures.
His picture "The Troika on display at the gallery was shown at the
exhibition of works of Russian and Soviet artists from the collection of Prof.
S.N. Gorshin in Mogilev in 1990.
