ARAPOV ANATOLY
AFANASYEVICH
1876-1949
Painter, scenographer, film artist. Studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1897-1906). Showed his works at exhibitions: the Blue Rose, the Union of Russian Artists, the Wreath, the World of Art, and also exhibitions in Paris (1906) and Moscow (1941, 1946,1954). Began to work for the theatre In 1905. Designed stage productions in many theatres, including "Pskovityanka" by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov (Bolshoi Theatre, 1919), "The Courtyard" by A.A. Karavayeva (Moscow Art Theatre, 1924) and others. Simultaneously worked for film studios in Moscow and Leningrad. Designed: "Decembrists" (1926), "The Poet and the Czar" (1927), "The Day of St. Jorgen" (1930, In cooperation with S.V. Kozlovsky and V.V. Balluzek), "The Dowerless One" (1936, in cooperation with S.D. Kuznetsov). Arapov's works are preserved at the State Central Theatrical Museum, the Maly Theatre Museum, the Saratov Art Museum etc. The landscape "Evening In the meadow" on display at the gallery was shown in the Tretyakov Art Gallery In 1989 and at an exhibition arranged by the Combined Art Studios in Khimki in 1990
